Turns out the rumors about O’Donnell going to MSNBC were true — and, sadly, Rosie managed to implode the whole deal by opening her mouth about it at a book signing in Miami. Here’s her post to r blog from yesterday:
following keith olbermann
we were close to a deal
i let it slip in miami
causing panic on the studio end
what can u do
2day there is no deal
my career as a pundit is over
b4 it began
just as well
everything happens for a reason
bashert – as we say
and on we go
On the heels of the report that the Nyack resident is going to be going head-to-head against Larry King, now TV Squad is reporting that the rumors are true: MSNBC is in talks to have Ro join the network. Currently that 9 to 10 p.m. time slot is occupied by the filler show Live with Dan Abrams. This AP story (on MSNBC, ironically) also confirms the report, but an exec from NBC said, “We’re far from a done deal.” Still, with each passing day, an O’Donnell-King faceoff seems more and more likely.

Wait, what’s that I hear? Oh yes, angels singing. (Or, if you’re Robert Cox of Olbermann Watch, angels weeping.)
As TV Newsr reports, “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” finally became the top rated cable news show in the 25-54 demo for the first time in its history. More important, the Hastings-bred MSNBC ancor beat out Fox News’s “O’Reilly Factor” for the first time ever.
I suppose this has been a long time coming, and what with his recent exposure after Sunday night football, Olbermann has never been hotter. As Phil Griffin, the NBC News exec responsible for MSNBC put it, “For years MSNBC struggled to find someone to be the tent pole and lead the way. … In 11 years, I dont think there has been a better moment.”

Even if the ratings for Keith Olbermann’s debut on NBC this weekend — his first “Countdown With Keith Olbermann” in the pre-game Sunday Night Football slot — might not be high enough to justify transitioning the show from MSNBC permanently, let’s look on the bright side. The former Hastings resident got over 4 million viewers, beating out FOX’s “Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?” Alas, according to TVNewser, that wasn’t high enough for “Countdown” to top “60 Minutes” or “America’s Funniest Videos.”
Still, given that Olbermann averaged 721,000 viewers most nights for his cable show this July, that amounts to an exponentially larger audience. And, of course, all the more reason for our disgruntled New Rochelle blogger friends at Olbermann Watch to keep on keepin on.

• Keith Olbermann re-signed with MSNBC for another four years this week. He’ll also contribute essays to NBC Nightly News. I’m pretty sure, the new deal officially makes him the best paid primetime news anchor from a third place cable news network to have grown up in Hastings. [The Celebrity Cafe]
• Donald Trump enters the world of wrestling in a hair-off contestâ€â€seriously. No he won’t be wrestling, he’ll find someone to do that for him, but if his wrestler loses, Trump will have to shave his head. Call me crazy, but I’m guessing Trump’s guy doesn’t lose. [Monsters and Critics]
• More gossip that Dave Annable is dating Sally Field! While some readers have told me the Suffern-born actor has been spotted with Kate Walsh of Grey’s Anatomy, E! is reportingâ€â€without namesâ€â€on a coupling that sounds awfully familiar. Hmmm. Wonder who they’re talking about? [E!]
• This has been a bad week for Scarsdale. First, native son Aaron Sorkin finds out NBC is yanking his show, “Studio 60,” a week earlier than originally thought due to abysmal ratings. And, today, the new film “Breach” opens, bringing more attention to one-time Scarsdale (and Yorktown) resident, Robert Hanssen, the treasonous FBI double-agent who sold secrets to the Soviets. No fear, you’ll be getting a daily dose of The Worst Person in the World for a long time to come. MSNBC plans to announce today they’ve renewed Olbermann’s contract, according to industry gossip site, TV Newser. The network’s number one star (who grew up in Hastings) was said to be asking $4 million dollars a year in his new contract (up from $1 million), and CNN was rumored to have expressed interest in stealing him away, had negotiations soured. We’ll keep you posted.
