It’s all ‘Greek’ to Jesse McCartney10.08.08

Ardsley native Jesse McCartney has landed a recurring role on ABC Family drama “Greek,” according to Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello.

jmc.jpgAusiello reported last week that McCartney will be in the “recurring role of Andy, a heavily recruited freshman jock who’ll be torn between rushing the KT and OX houses.”

The rising pop star also filmed a role for “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” this year. GUNG-GUNG!

Faux-lympians Al Roker, Matt Lauer weave dreams with rhythmic gymnastic exhibition08.19.08

“Today” hosts Al Roker, formerly of Yorktown, and Matt Lauer, formerly of Chappaqua, Ardsley and Hartsdale, did the Lower Hudson Valley and America proud this morning with the following triumphant athletic exhibition:

‘Razzi Rundown: Where alliteration lives, puns are fun and timeliness is optional08.01.08

Disclaimer: I’m an avid reader of BestWeekEver.tv, one of my favorite non-LoHud blogs out there these days. So if this quick-hitter format and source material looks familiar, it is, and I’m coming clean with that up-front. Plagiarism kills, kids!

jayz.jpgRINGDOM COME: New Scarsdale resident Jay-Z is finally wearing a wedding ring these days. You might have “the hottest chick in the game wearin’ (your) chain,” Shawn, but Beyoncé seems pretty intent on your wearing jewels of Hova matrimony. (Source: MollyGood via BestWeekEver.tv)

MUNCH SINGS!: My friend and comedienne extraordinaire Abbi Crutchfield caught comedian Richard Belzer’s recent act at Comix, where he was lauded by Robert Klein of Briarcliff Manor from the crowd and backed by Bedford’s Paul Shaffer and the Belzonics on stage. No word on if Ice-T offered similar musical collaboration, which surely would have been accompanied by the echoey “Law & Order” gavel. (Source: The Apiary)

PANETTIERE IS FRENCH FOR ‘PARKING ANYWHERE’: “Heroes” star and Palisades native Hayden Penettiere appears to have been busted for a parking violation. It’s unknown if similar fines are pending for a subpar second season. (Source: I’m Not Obsessed via BestWeekEver.tv)

BA-ED NEWS, GOO-ED NEWS: Ed McMahon, whose family once lived in Bronxville, is being sued for money he allegedly owes his daughter’s divorce attorney. At least his new gig helping out Jimmy Kimmel will help Ed pay off his McMahon-sion. Hiyo! (Source: E!)

VIEIRON MAIDEN: With Irvington resident Meredith Vieira on lead vocals, former Yorktown resident Al Roker on drums and former Chappaqua-Ardsley-Hartsdale resident Matt Lauer on “guitar,” the Today Show’s attempt to play Rock Band is almost as bizarre as the Willard Scott ditty that follows it. So who’s Jesse McCartney been ‘Leavin” with lately?05.27.08

It’s good to be Jesse McCartney right now.

jmc.jpgEven if the Ardsley native gave away a No. 1 hit to Leona Lewis, his catchy “Leavin'” is soaring up the charts. Plus, lately he’s been seen gallavanting and posing for photos with Danity Kane’s Aubrey O’Day.

In addition to posting the photos in the previous link, JustJared claims the couple were “spotted in each other’s arms … at club Butter in New York City” on May 19.

Even if they’re not dating, they appear at the very least they appear to be chummy friends. No word yet if she’s been racking up the frequent flier miles on his “G5, G5,” either.

For those keeping score, O’Day is 24 years old and McCartney’s 21. McCartney might just seem younger because of his earlier start in the industry, his baby face and his recent work in “Alvin & The Chipmunks.” But now he’s legally allowed to drink you under the table, so be warned.

Of course, O’Day’s group is the brainchild of Sean “Diddy” Combs, who spent his later childhood in Mount Vernon.

C. Jesse McCartney, Ardsley native

The answer, as always, is at the end of the video or after the break. It’s also revealed in, uh, the next post down.

Without a No. 1 hit of his own (yet), Jesse McCartney gives Leona Lewis international chart-topper05.21.08

You probably know by now that British singing sensation Leona Lewis, one of the hitmakers helmed by Pound Ridge resident Clive Davis, scored an international No. 1 with her song, “Bleeding Love.”

Z100's Zootopia 2008 - Press RoomBut did you know that Ardsley native Jesse McCartney cowrote the track with OneRepublic lead singer Ryan Tedder and, after opting not to include it on McCartney’s own album, gave it to her?

MTV recently scored an interview with McCartney, who elaborated on the creative process behind the single that “some people didn’t hear (as a hit) at first”:

I recorded it and decided it probably wasn’t right for my album. So we just kind of swept it under the rug, and somehow Clive Davis heard it — I think Ryan played it for Clive — and he fell in love with it and called and said, ‘I really want this song for Leona.’ And we did not expect it was going to be the biggest song in Europe of ’07.

Using the ever-popular third-person point of view, he insisted that he was not upset that he did not include his version of the song on his own album:

A hit for Leona Lewis may not necessarily mean a hit for Jesse McCartney.

Don’t feel too bad for McCartney, though. Despite the fact that he has yet to chart a No. 1 single as a singer, his latest track — the Justin Timberlakesque “Leavin'” — is soaring up the charts and could soon give him his first chart-topper on lead vocals. As of this post’s publication, it was the seventh-most downloaded song on iTunes. LoHud power!

Check out MTV’s full video interview with McCartney after the break. (more…)

Jesse McCartney channels his inner chipmunk on quest to break caroling record12.03.07

jesse.jpgI try to support celebs from the Lower Hudson Valley, so while I can’t get behind the CGI/live-action freakfest film version of “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” I’ll gladly endorse Ardsley native Jesse McCartney’s quest to break a record with a holiday theme.

In an unusual promotion for the upcoming film, for which the 20-year-old pop star voices Theodore, McCartney will be leading what he hopes will be the world’s largest group of carolers when he sings “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)” at the Mall of America this Sunday, Dec. 9.

He might want to break box-office records. Me, I want a hula hoop.

Tween girls can also plan to complement their singing with some squealing. Jesse is totally available … for photos and autograph-signing at the caroling event, according to Fox.

Fans in Tuckahoe didn’t have to make a trip to Minne-SOH-tah to meet McCartney last year. A year after graduating from Ardsley High School in 2005, he stopped by Tuckahoe Middle School to prank a bunch of kids into thinking they’d need to take a test to get into THS — or be sent to eight-and-a-half-grade. Of course, McCartney emerged during the prank to reveal that the students were on his “Punk’d”-esque ABC Family show, “Schooled.” He signed autographs (as seen in the above photo) and a good larf was had by all.

The wide release for “Alvin and the Chipmunks” is next Friday, Dec. 14.

From Lauer to Leno to Letterman, LoHud celebs dominate Forbes list of TV’s Top Earners10.02.07

letterman.jpgNorth Salem resident David Letterman earned $40 million from June 2006 to June 2007 through television, ranking him fourth on Forbes magazine’s new list of TV’s Top Earners and tops among celebrities who have lived or attended college in the Lower Hudson Valley.

His newest BFF, Oprah Winfrey, tops the list. And it isn’t even close. She made $260 million in that one-year span, about $200 million more than the runner-up, Jerry Seinfeld ($60 million) and even more over “American Idol” staple Simon Cowell ($45 million).

Suddenly Alex Rodriguez’s contract doesn’t seem so out of the ordinary.

Other LoHudders on the list: Westchester real estate maven and golf course owner Donald Trump (No. 5, $32 million); New Rochelle native Jay Leno (No. 6, $32 million); former Putnam County resident (Judge) Judy Sheindlin (No. 7, $30 million); former Chappaqua, Ardsley and Hartsdale resident Matt Lauer (No. 17, $13 million); Sarah Lawrence College graduate Barbara Walters (No. 18, $12 million); and Irvington resident Meredith Vieira (No. 20, $10 million).
