You both make very valid points, which I clearly didnt clarify in my post. The news story that I linked to does clearly state that Sandman was provoked and that the owner threw a glass at him.

Interesting Shannon. Thank you for posting that. The media keeps reporting that Sandman “got drunk and started throwing glasses” but watching the video it’s clear there was a fight and he didn’t just randomly start throwing glasses. It’s frustrating how the media demonizes wrestlers. No back story just Sandman drunk and disorderly. Clearly something happened and it’s nice to hear what that something was. Should he have done what he did? No of course not. But that doesn’t mean he wasn’t provoked and clearly that is the case here. I wish the media would try for accuracy in their reporting rather than sensationalism, particularly where wrestlers are concerned.

Before I am inclined to nuke Sandman here, I am inclined to nuke the owner of the establishment he was frequenting.
The family of Lou Albano ASKED them to stop serving liquor to Sandman and several other patrons there, knowing it was probably going to get out of hand. The owner refused (the all mighty dollar being what it is..) and then he got into a verbal confrontation with a guy who makes his living on the rough side..the owner threw a glass at Sandman, and it was on. If Sandman got out of control, his fault. If Sandman reacted to a guy out of control that clearly should have known better, OWNER’S fault and he richly got what HE deserved, except he should have gone to jail as well..
Just my 2 cents worth.
