Jason Bateman joins the greatest cast in film history

Somebody give Jason Bateman’s agent a bonus. Although the Rye native had a little rough patch there (see: “Fast Track,” “Smokin’ Aces”), he landed two of the best roles of his career last year with “The Kingdom” and “Juno.”
And 2009 is shaping up to be even better now that Bateman has found his way into the cast of Ricky Gervais’s newest project, “This Side of the Truth.”
The “Truth” about Gervais? The man’s a comedy genius, as evidenced by the original “The Office” and HBO’s “Extras” (and, for that matter, his podcast on iTunes). But even if you’re not a fan of his cockneyed quirkiness, just look at the stars he’s rounded up for his new flick: Tina Fey, Christopher Guest, Jeffrey Tambor, Jonah Hill, and John Hodgman. Yeah, pretty much the entire brain trust of an American comedy.
I’m not sure I’d put Bateman (or, for that matter, some of the other cast, like Jennifer Garner and Rob Lowe) in the same class, but hey, way to latch onto the funny.
In other Bateman news: the rumored “Arrested Development” movie continues to be, well, rumored. Only now by people like Bateman and Michael Cera, which makes it slightly more plausible.
