This Week in Panettiere

At first covering Hayden Panettiere felt like a novelty. Back a year ago, when she was just one of the umpteen castmates on “Heroes” and starring alongside Anthony Lapaglia in “The Architect,” there wasn’t a great deal to write about—but just enough about the Palisades native to keep us entertained and blogging about her.
Lately, though, the Google news alerts alone are flooding me in an avalance of Hayden news and gossip. And so, rather than attempting to parse it all out, from here on forward, I’ll try to just limit the Panettiere posts to one a week—a recap of sorts. Any more than that and I’d feel dirty.
This week’s Panettiere-a-palooza is after the break.
• In GQ’s December issue, the mag officially appointed Panettiere its “Obsession of the Year”—completely with totally icky, barely-legal photos and video. To be honest, I was a much bigger fan of the interview than the visual aids (which left me washing my eye out with soap). Among the revealing details in the text:
1. Panettiere owns a merlot-colored Porsche (which she wants to trade in for a Prius).
2. If she were a lesbian, she’d be interested in getting with Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, Kate Beckinsale, and Jessica Alba (in that order).
3. Though they’re not together, she did once go on a date with B.J. Novak from “The Office.”
4. She would feel “bad about myself” if she got paid $1 million per episode for “Heroes”
• Panettiere’s arrest warrant in Japan (filed after she and a group of protesters attempted to stop an annual dolphin hunt) has sparked an online petition called SavingtheDolphins.blogspot.com. To date 551 names have been added, while the goal of the petition’s creators, Kirsten Feher and Alan Baltes, is to amass 2 million names that they’ll deliver to the Japanese Embassy in the US, Congress, the United Nations.
• In an interview with Teen magazine, Panettiere says that, if anything, the paparazzi hounding her has only emboldened her to become a kind of teen role model—just to show them up! “For God knows what reason, they compare me with Lindsay Lohan!” she said. “It’s kind of become, ‘All right, you guys can stay there and try knocking me off my horse.’ I want to prove them wrong now.” [via People]
• TMZ.com has video of Panettiere saying there’s “no chance” of her getting back together with “Laguna Beach” ex-boyfriend Stephen Colletti.
• According to Hollyscoop, Panettiere has been chosen to announce the Golden Globe nominations next week in Los Angeles.
