Pup it up: Paul Shaffer to appear at SPCA fundraiser

April
25

CBS Orchestra leader and Bedford resident Paul Shaffer is expected to join family members Saturday at Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park in Yorktown as guests of honor for the 11 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Wags & Whiskers Walk-a-thon, which raises money and awareness for the Briarcliff Manor-based SPCA of Westchester.

The sidekick to North Salem resident David Letterman will appear to help the organization raise cash for its animal rescue programs.

Dogs, families and owners are invited to trek 2.5 miles around the park and attend the SPCA Pet Fair, slated to include games, crafts for kids and dogs, animals for adoption, food and music. The event costs $35 per family or $20 per person. (Dogs attend for free.) For more information on the Walk-a-thon, call 914-941-2896 or visit http://spca914.org/.paul-shaffer.jpg

Not only is Shaffer’s appearance expected to boost a good cause, but it gives me an excuse to post some adorable originial YouTube footage of some of the animals I met at the SPCA facility last week. On the tour, the staff introduced me to a rescued Cortlandt dog, five cozy cats in the cattery and a 3.5-week-old kitty named Princess Xena.
