Scott Stapp settles his stolen sex tape lawsuit

Remember last year, when a sex tape with Creed frontman Scott Stapp, Kid Rock, and four (very unlucky) women was leaked? Don’t worry, I didn’t either. But, anyway, it’s been settled. And, as my colleague at the Journal News, Terry Corcoran, reported last year, it turns out Stapp’s lawyer is none other than Carmel’s William G. Sayegh. Stapp sued the company that released the tape, claiming they had stolen it from his propertyâ€â€a warehouse in Miami. Sayegh told me that the case was settled on “the eve of trial.â€? According to Sayegh, the company, California-based Internet porn site, World Wide Red Light District, agreed to return the tape to Stapp, never show the video again, admit Stapp is its sole owner, and also pay him a monetary sum (Sayegh wouldn’t say how much). The tape, currently, is in Sayegh’s “possession.â€? He wouldn’t say whether it would be destroyed or not.
“It sets an important precedent that just because a person is a celebrity it doesn’t mean they lose their right to privacy, Sayegh said this morning. “Celebrities are people like everyone else. They need and deserve a certain level of privacy.
Indeed it does seem to be the first time one of these celebrity sex tapes was effectively taken off the market via a lawsuit. Rock on, Stapp!
