Mount Vernon native Denzel Washington isn’t the only LoHud film star getting ready to film an Iraq soldier story. Variety reports that Pound Ridge resident Tim Robbins will be starring with Rachel McAdams in “The Return,” directed by Neil Burger, about three soldiers who return from Iraq and begin a “unexpected road trip across the U.S.” Production will begin next month, and the movie is expected to come out just in time for the December Academy Awards push.
Incidentally, I just finished watching Robbins in “Catch a Fire,” now out on DVD, and I highly recommend adding it to your Netflix queue. The movie is about apartheid-era South Africa and Robbins plays a prickly cop out to catch supposed ANC terrorists. But ironically, his methods—rounding up large groups of innocent suspects and torturing them—only serve to create terrorists our of formerly law-abiding citizens. Anyway, it resonated with me, especially with what’s going on right now in Iraq and the War on Terror. Bonus: You get to see Robbins pull off a top-notch South African accent.
