Stalking Lower Hudson Valley Celebrities … So You Don’t Have To

EXCLUSIVE: Tom Brokaw bought an ice-cream scoop

December
25

As you may already know, the self proclaimed “sex-kitten” Eartha Kitt died on Christmas day. She was most famous for her song “Santa Baby” and her role as Catwoman on the 1960s ridiculously awesome Batman show.

Kitt lived in Pound Ridge throughout the 1990s before moving to Connecticut. Joan Silbersher, who runs Antiques & Tools of Business & Kitchen in Pound Ridge, told me Kitt was a frequent customer.

“She used to walk by regularly with her dog wearing these weights on her ankles,” Silbersher said. “She was a very attractive woman. She was so fit and so charming.”

Silbersher said her store is also frequented by other celebs that live in the northern Westchester area, including Richard Gere, Tom Brokaw and Martha Stewart.

Wanna know what they buy from her store? Come on, you know you care.

Get this, Tom Brokaw bought an ice cream scoop there over the summer! For some reason, I find that hilarious. Picture a journalism titan who has squared off with some of the world’s most destructive dictators… scooping some Rocky Road into a bowl and dousing it with fruity sprinkles.

(I wonder if Tom Brokaw hums the NBC Nightly News theme song right before he makes himself a yummy snack.)

As you know, Richard Gere owns the Bedford Post Inn. So what’s he buying for his restaurant?

“Richard and his wife came through recently buying a copper boiler,” Silbersher said. “He said he was going to use it as an ice container for his restaurant.”

Using a copper boiler as an ice-container? Talk about a fashion no-no, that’s soooo 2005!

Now, Martha Stewart is a domestic doyen. I’m sure she hits up Silbersher’s store all the time.

“Actually, ever since Martha went to prison, she hasn’t come through at all,” Silbersher said.

Hmm, coincidence???

I’m really hoping you’ve caught onto my sarcasm in this post.

‘Sopranos’ actor cleared in cop slaying

December
23

If you haven’t heard already, Yonkers actor Lilo Brancato Jr. was cleared of second-degree murder yesterday in relation to the shooting of an off-duty cop in 2005.

Brancato is most famous for his breakthrough role as Robert DeNiro’s son in the movie “A Bronx Tale” in 1993 and had a brief stint on the HBO show The Sopranos.

But we here at Suburbarazzi think he’s most famous for his less-than-2-second cameo in the music video “My Boo” by Alicia Keys and Usher. Fast forward to 3:01 in the video and you can see Brancato driving a town car.

But of course, the biased mainstream media tries to hide that fact from you.

Diddy reveals his secret to macking

December
21

Say what you want about Diddy, but the Mount Vernon raised mogul has got some serious skills when it comes to picking up the celebrity hotties.

(I can’t believe I just used the word “hotties.” Actually I can, otherwise I would have deleted it. Then again, maybe I didn’t delete it because I was lazy. But why would I continue to type if I was lazy?)

Anywho, Diddy revealed to Extra TV how he’s able to charm the ladies.

“The thing that works for me is, ‘What’s your name?’” he said.

I tried that line on a girl at the gym last week, it didn’t work for me. But the fact that I was working out while wearing shorts and black dress socks probably had a lot to do with that.

No jailtime for Akon

December
17

After pleading guilty to throwing a boy off stage at a concert in Fishkill last year, Akon won’t be getting locked up after all.

The picture you see is the June 2007 incident where Akon asked the boy to come on stage after finding out the kid might have been throwing objects at him. Akon responded with a wrestling style move and launched the kid off the stage!

Dutchess county officials said Akon will avoid jail time as long as he agrees to do 65 hours of community service and pay a $250 fine.

Akon is no stranger to concert shenanigans either. About two months before the Fishkill incident, Akon at a show in Trinidad dry humped a girl on stage. He apologized later after finding out the girl was underage (because apparently the girl’s age was the only problem?).

UPDATE: Our friends at the Poughkeepsie Journal have some incredibly exciting video footage of Akon walking in and out of a courtroom. If you don’t see any sarcasm in that statement, then bless your soul.

Fishburne signs development deal with CBS

December
16

After debuting on CSI last week to over 20 million viewers, Laurence Fishburne is apparently here to stay with CBS.

The actor with a home in New Rochelle just signed a deal with CBS to develop small screen projects, similar to the string of successes Mark Wahlberg has had on HBO with shows like Entourage and In Treatment.

But Morpheus is no stranger to developing his own projects too. His production company was responsible for the movie Akeelah and the Bee, a great film if you haven’t seen it already. Fishburne also executive produced HBO’s Miss Evers’ Boys and Always Outnumbered.

CBS lately has been coming out with all sorts of great new shows like The Mentalist, so I’m really curious to see what Fishburne will come up with.

Laurence Fishburne makes CSI debut tonight

December
11

New Rochelle resident Laurence Fishburne will make his debut on the smash hit show CSI, tonight on CBS at 9 p.m.

The actor most famous for his role as Morpheus in the Matrix (but to me, he’s most famous as Cowboy Curtis on Pee-Wee’s Playohuse) will now have the lead role on the show. I can’t say that I watch CSI regularly, but I’m definitely tuning in tonight to see how Fishburne does. Check out a preview clip below:

Bye-bye Brokaw

December
7

Pound Ridge resident Tom Brokaw (or as I like to call him, “T-Bro”) has officially stepped down as interim host of NBC’s Meet the Press and passed off the baton to White House reporter David Gregory, also a host of his own show on MSNBC.

Granted, I have a healthy heterosexual man crush on Tom Brokaw, but I think he truly deserves some kudos.

Here’s a guy who for over 20 years anchored NBC’s nightly newscast and is no doubt one of the greatest journalists in our generation. And after Meet the Press host Tim Russert (another one of my healthy heterosexual man crushes) unexpectedly died this summer, Brokaw came out of retirement and took over while NBC searched for a replacement.

The show made several headlines under Brokaw’s short tenure, including former Secretary of State Collin Powell who told Brokaw on Meet the Press that he was endorsing Barack Obama instead of John McCain.

And according to the Baltimore Sun, Brokaw actually brought in a larger audience than Russert. In November, Meet the Press averaged 4.491 million viewers a week — almost a million more than ABC’s Sunday show and almost 3 million more than Fox’s.

For that T-Bro, we salute you.

Beyonce’s hairy armpits create buzz

December
3

As expected, the blogosphere is up in a frenzy after Beyonce revealed to the world she forgot to shave her underarms this week.

The new Scarsdale resident waved to fans during the New York premiere of her new movie, Cadillac Records, on Tuesday and flashed some pit hair. One eyewitness said “Beyonce always looks her best at these kind of events. She obviously either ran out of razors or just missed a bit in the bathroom.”

Hairy armpits or not, she still looked stunning in her ambiguously see through black dress. I’m just sayin.

In case you’re looking for something on TV tonight, Beyonce and her sister Solange Knowles will be performing at the Rockefeller Christmas tree lighting ceremony at 8 p.m. on NBC. Other acts include Miley Cyrus, Faith Hill, Rascal Flatts, David Cook and the legend Tony Bennett.

Diddy wants to play James Bond

December
2

Diddy never ceases to amaze me.

Now that he’s landed a small role on CSI: Miami, the Mount Vernon raised mogul makes the case to the world why he should succeed Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.

“This is my audition tape,”  he said. ”…I feel like I am suited to be the next James Bond. We’ve had a black president, now it’s time for a black Bond.”

About 1:45 into the video, Diddy presents a short film he produced for his new fragrance I Am King and cites it as evidence he has what it takes to play the famous role of 007.

Aww, poor Rosie

November
28

Don’t call it a comeback… seriously don’t.

NBC had high hopes for resurrecting Rosie O’Donnell’s career this week by letting her star in her very own variety special featuring appearances by Alec Baldwin, Liza Minelli and Kathy Griffin.

NBC was hoping that special would be successful and turn it into a regular series. But apparently it didn’t go well for the Nyack resident on Wednesday after only 5 million viewers tuned in – not a good number for a broadcast network used to getting double or triple that amount for its other shows.

Other networks thinking about creating variety shows of their own were watching Rosie’s show with keen interest.

“There’s a notion that the climate is right for the genre to make a comeback,” one executive said to the Hollywood Reporter. “I guess we now know what not to do, thanks to Rosie.”

Ouch. Even worse, the NY Times said it the show felt like  “hokey comedy with an enemies list.” TV Guide called it a “ghastly ego trip.” And the LA Times asked, “Rosie, what on earth were you thinking?”

Poor Rosie. She’s been rejected more times than Steve Urkel propositioning Laura Winslow for a one-night-stand.

Who knows, maybe the CW network is accepting applications.

Obama’s entourage adds another Westchester rez

November
25

As you already know, Barack Obama has named Mamaroneck resident Timothy Geithner to be his treasury secretary. Our reporters Allan Drury and Christine Pizzuti rolled out  to Mamaroneck yesterday to stalk reach out to his friends and neighbors.

(To the right is a pic of his house in Mamaroneck).

I’m getting word that current treasury secretary Henry Paulson actually swung by Mamaroneck to chit-chat with Geithner over the weekend. How did I miss this?!?

Anywho, add Geithner to the list of Obama’s crew members that have Westchester ties. His chief of staff Rahm Emanuel attended Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville and one of Obama’s transition advisors Christopher Edley Jr. grew up in New Rochelle. Chappaqua resident Hillary Clinton is very likely to become Secretary of State and Bedford resident Robert F. Kennedy Jr. could possibly become Secretary of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Also, the Huffington Post reports Howard Wolfson could become Hillary Clinton’s State Department spokesman if she gets the job. Wolfson grew up in Yonkers.

Jay-Z and Beyonce Hollywood’s richest couple

November
23

Scarsdale’s newest celebrities Jay-Z and Beyonce made it to the top of the list for Forbes Magazines richest celebrity couples.

The musical lovebirds racked up $162 million last year. And unlike other couples that made the list, the two’s income is fairly even.

Jay-Z collected over $82 million for a lucrative touring deal with Live Nation and his platinum selling album American Gangster.

Beyonce landed over $80 million thanks to a slew of movie roles, endorsements and sold out concert tour.

The two’s assets dwarfed the competition on the list. In second place, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett racked up $80 million last year — most of which came from the $80 million Will Smith got from his movie roles.

Check out the entire list here.
